Toshiba Data Center SATA Solid State Drives Expand NetApp SolidFire All-Flash Array Offerings

Toshiba HK4 Family of Non-Encrypted Data Center Optimized SATA SSDs Enable NetApp to Reach New Markets

IRVINE, Calif. —May 2, 2017— Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC), a committed technology leader, today announces that its non-encrypted HK4 SATA Series SSDs are being utilized in select NetApp SolidFire®1 all-flash array models without encryption, enabling NetApp customers to reach new markets. As a key SSD supplier for NetApp SolidFire, this news demonstrates Toshiba’s commitment to continued momentum and growth in the industry following the recently announced IDC market reports2, which identified Toshiba as the fastest growing vendor for 2016 in the $17 billion SSD segment3.

Toshiba’s HK4 SATA SSDs will enhance the NetApp SolidFire SF4805, SF9605 and SF19210 products, offering data center optimized latency, power, and performance with encryption options for applications, such as analytics, web servers, files servers, database and virtualized environments. The HK4 Series represents Toshiba’s first line of non-encrypted SATA SSDs for SolidFire products, complementing the existing family of encrypted HK4 SSDs.

“Our customers require predictable and highly efficient performance; and they get that with Toshiba Data Center SSDs,” said Daniel Berg, vice president, SolidFire Production Operations at NetApp. “With the addition of Toshiba’s non-encrypted SSDs, NetApp SolidFire products can now address markets where non-encrypted drives are required.”

This new integration marks the most recent collaboration between TAEC and NetApp, building on last year’s collaborative efforts during which the two companies announced the availability of FIPS certified SSDs with Toshiba’s PX04S 12Gbit/s4 SAS SSDs for encrypted data environments.

“Toshiba established its US-based Storage Research and Design Center to bring innovation closer to its customers like NetApp,” said Jeremy Werner, vice president SSD marketing and product planning at Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. “We are committed to continually offering NetApp a comprehensive portfolio that helps meet the evolving needs of their environment and customers.”
